Recommended Reading

The books suggested below are not directly about panic disorder. Once you know how to deal with panic attacks you will still have to deal with everyday life and in life we can use all the help we can get. Some of these books below have helped me in ways I can’t even describe. I hope you find them equally helpful. There are some extra recommendations in the Mindfulness ebook.

Awareness by Anthony De Mello
I would rate this as one of the most inspiring and practical books I have ever read.

Stop Thinking Start Living by Richard Carlson
Does exactly what it says on the cover. Great if endless thinking is your number one problem.

You Can Feel Good Again by Richard Carlson
How to avoid dwelling on negative past events, bypass bad moods, develop a positive outlook, and reach a natural state of contentment.

Everyday Zen by Charlotte Joko Beck
Every line in this book teaches you something invaluable. Could be re-read a million times. Most western Mindfulness practitioners swear by this book.

Zen O’Clock: Time to be by Scott Shaw
A pocket book that will save your life if you’re ever caught in a queue or on a long journey. Jolts you back into the here-and-now. Brilliant!

Full Catastrophe Living:
How to cope with stress, pain and illness using mindfulness meditation by Jon Kabat-Zinn
There is a lot in this but it is also a VERY big read (470 pages)

The Zen Path Through Depression by Philip Martin
Succinct chapters dealing with various aspects of depression. Excellent meditation exercises

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle
Terrific book. Apparently Meg Ryan recommended it to Oprah Winfrey. There is a shortened version called Practising The Power of Now – if you don’t like a big read.

Loving What Is by Byron Katie
Byron Katie is like CBT condensed to just 4 questions  – 4 questions that can literally change your life overnight. I don’t think any other writers have had such a huge impact on my life like  Katie.

I Need Your Love Is That True by Byron Katie
Another great book by Katie which can help transform how you relate to everyone in your life.

If you aren’t a big reader then check out audiobooks. Get yourself an ipod and buy a car stereo  that allows you to play the ipod in the car. You’d be surprised how many books you get through
