A VITAL part of recovery – Dealing with ‘Setbacks’

On the road to recovery we can face quite a few ‘setbacks’

When we first start to practice recovery we have some success and feel quite relaxed.

However – since it is ‘early days’ we still have some ‘anticipatory anxiety’ that the panic will return.

Then – if we do have more panic attacks we imagine they are worse than ever before – as usual we Misinterpret and Catastrophise

EVERYONE goes through this – it is a perfectly normal and ESSENTIAL part of recovery. This is where you REALLY learn about panic.

During a setback we Misinterpret and Catastrophise in a slightly different way and it is helpful to ‘IDENTIFY – CHALLENGE and CHANGE’ these distortions. (see the next page)
