‘Interoceptive’ Exposure Practice

Practice Pointers

  • Practice each exercise long enough to produce a realistic increase in anxiety. Try to let yourself feel the sensations rather than control them.
  • Practice each exercise DAILY until you lose your fear of the sensations of anxiety produced.
  • Practice those exercises that mimic symptoms that frighten you. Notice that these are normal bodily sensations that can cause you no harm.
  • Practice your knowledge and recovery skills during and after the exercises
  • Carry out normal activities just after practicing the exercises so that you get used to the symptoms in everyday life.
  • Use the Interoceptive Exposure WORKSHEET (page 19) to monitor your progress
